This is a quick, to the point section on what I picked up in comics in the last couple days and what I think of them.
Injustice: Gods Among Us #14 |

So the game came out and it doesn’t tie into the comic all that smoothly. Matter of fact the game rehashes a particular scene from the comic but where the comic did it exceptionally well, it just came off as hokey in the game. Not to say the game is bad but I’ll talk about that elsewhere.This issue jumps around a bit too much. Its one of those the end is the beginning bits but the actual end of the issue isn’t the beginning which is highly confusing at issue #14 of a series I expect to end soon.
Its still a good issue but its hard not to be disappointed about how poorly the story is represented in the game. Hopefully I will learn to segregate the two as the comic story is exceptional. |
Justice League #1-6 (New 52) |

Comixology had a $0.99 sale on quite a few Justice League comics so I grabbed a few. This is actually the first I’ve read in the New 52 and if you haven’t figured it out already, I’m really not much of a DC fan.
With that said, these issues were enjoyable but pretty corny. Its written like the Justice League are a bunch of high schoolers but actually adults. And then Darkseid shows up. Cyborg being on the team is kind of weird. DC doesn’t have a lot of black super heroes. Kind of wish they just made a new one to be honest with you. DC also desperately wants you like to Aquaman. They basically give Aquaman the Captain America from the Avengers scene. “Why should we follow you?” Punches bad guys to prove leadership. Green Lantern was probably the most child like out of all of them which is disappointing since I really like the Green Lanterns. Overall I was curious enough to look on the store for additional issues, but not curious enough to buy them at $2.99 a pop. |

This is such an odd series. The longer it goes on the more I don’t get it. In this issue we find out that Sam Alexander is “the one” and Gamora and Drax are here to train him. I’m still pretty fuzzy as to the timeline of the series. I can’ figure out if this is happening after the Annihilation wave kills the Nova Corps or after Nova and Starlord sacrifice themselves to prevent Thanos from appearing in a comic for 3 months. Evidently the Chitauri are going to be the starter villains. And from what I hear Loeb is leaving the book after issue #6. I’ll be really curious to hear sales numbers on this series.
Truth be told, its not a bad comic, its just not particularly good either. Its only 3 issues in though so view points can be changed. But the whole “the one” story has been worn the hell out on me. |

So how has Arcade gained super powers and forced these kids to kill each other? This issue reveals how in a surprisingly entertaining, somewhat emotional look at Arcade’s past as a giant loser, laughingstock, and pitifully horrible human being. I’m super surprised at how much I enjoyed this issue. The answer to it all is ridiculously generic but the story telling is there. Arcade is now a villain to me that I don’t know what to think about.Also a quick complaint that has nothing to do with the story and art: Marvel, why do I not get a free digital copy of this from my physical copy? Fix it! |
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9 #20 |

This series is finally starting to get better. This issue focuses almost entirely on Xander with some wonderful comedic relief via Andrew. Unfortunately this issue also has the side effect of having me worry as to where its going to go. This is primarily due to that they could ruin the greatness that is the Angel & Faith series.I’ve also decided reading the fan letters in these books is an absolute riot! So many Spike fan boys and girls out there who want him to wind up with Buffy! |

Holy crap this series is so freaking good! This issue focuses entirely on The Flash and his state of mind as he helps Superman and Wonder Woman police the world. I just, seriously its like $0.99 on Comixology, just go buy them already! This is a Kingdom Come or Red Son Superman quality comic. Granted its accelerating towards a non-ending but as a comic reader you should be used to things not ending. |

Now we get to see another perspective on the conversation that happened last issue of All-New X-Men as well as who was recruited. I had two guesses on the new recruit and one of them was correct. The new cast of mutant teenagers are really likable characters so far. Bendis writes teenagers really well. Illyana is also turning out to be one of my favorite characters of the series. She’s come a long way from a Colossus MacGuffin and it looks like the next story arc is going to surround her. Very much looking forward to it. |
Wolverine and the X-Men #1-3 |

I think this series might have been built up a little too high for me. I’ve heard it touted as the best X comic out there. Unfortunately for it I now have Uncanny X-Men and All-New X-Men to compare it to. It would probably help if I was familiar with any of the new students. I should clarify, this book is a good book but it hasn’t won me over as the best. The story starts out with Xavier walking (I must have missed something here) with Wolverine telling him how happy he was that Wolverine is starting a new school. Xavier soon departs and hijinks ensue. The appealing aspects of the series are the ever polite Brood student named Broo, the rebellious Kid Omega, and of course one of my favorite X-women Kitty Pryde. The enemies of the first 3 issues appear to be a new teenage Hellfire Club. I honestly wish they just wrote the story without an actual villain attacking the school. There were so many scenes that could have been elaborated on if they just left those pages out. But still enjoyed it. Maybe in a week or two I’ll read the next few issues. |

Guardians of the Galaxy Infinite: Gamora |

Marvel has been releasing the Guardians of the Galaxy Infinite comics free digitally. This is the third, the previous ones being Drax and Rocket Raccoon. The fascinating thing about these comics is aside from Rocket Raccoon’s they are almost completely dialog free. The artwork and action in this comic is pretty friggin’ awesome. I did enjoy the issue as a whole but I find myself questioning as to if Bendis actually knows anything about Gamora other than that she’s Thanos’ adopted daughter and the whole Badoon bit. The issue I have is Gamora is awesome but totally not a good person. In this comic, she’s a good person.I do think it sadly bears pointing out Gamora can now afford clothes! Lets hope it sticks! |
Injustice: Gods Among Us #12 |

Truth be told, I don’t think anything is going to beat the first 8 issues or so of this series. But #12 still keeps it mostly up, say a 4 star issue compared to most of the 5 stars the series has been dishing out but still better than #11. If you haven’t read my previous review of the series so far its here. I also talk quite a bit about the series in the upcoming podcast which I hopefully will get uploaded in the next day or so.This issue primarily concerns Aquaman reacting to Superman’s new world order. Oh sure he doesn’t claim to be a ruler but that’s what its heading to.
Man I do not want to spend $60 on a player versus player fighter but since this series is a prequel to the game, I think I have to figure out where to get $60 from. I can’t recommend this series enough and its only 99 cents an issue on Comixology. If you’re like me you’ll buy everything that’s available all at once and foam at the mouth waiting for next week’s installment. Did I mention this was a weekly series? |

You know what? I love this series. Its premise is absolutely ridiculous. The characters may not be the ones I remember but I love it. Bendis for the most part does a wonderful job of playing the middle line in the Cyclops versus all the other mutants debate with plenty of jabs and good points to keep the audience guessing as to which side he’s on. In this issue Cyclops visits the school looking for new recruits. There is less focus on the young X-Men but Cyclops and Jean get plenty of spotlight. And really when it comes down to it, the future is a dystopia for the original X-Men and its wonderful to see them react to it. |

This is a quick, to the point section on what I picked up in comics in the last couple days and what I think of them. I might of picked some of them up last week.
Injustice Gods Among Us #1-10I realize it’s been a while since I’ve written one of these. I’m not going to catch up with what I’ve missed but should have my thoughts on this weeks releases sometime this weekend. From there hopefully I will be back to regularly delivering these posts on Thursdays or Fridays.
First off, I purchased all issues of Injustice Gods Among Us from Comixology for $0.99 a piece. This is not normal continuum DC. I’m going to tell you right now this series is fantastic and I don’t subscribe to any monthly DC comics. But unfortunately to sell this to you I’m going to have to spoil the first issue. My hope is that you’ll just trust me and try out the first issue without reading this. This comic series has made me massively interested in a videogame that I had no previous interest in purchasing. Also this series is still ongoing. I’m assuming it’ll go to issue #12 and allegedly will function as a prequel to the game.
First issue spoilers start now. Injustice Gods Among Us asks what would it take and what would it look like if the Justice League decided to inflict world peace on the world. The story starts with Superman waking up to hear two heart beats coming out of Lois. She’s pregnant. Both of them get very excited. Superman asks Batman to be the godfather. Meanwhile, Batman investigates a recent kryptonite theft from Star Labs. All in all, Joker was bored and tired of losing so he decided to mess with Superman. He combines Scarecrow’s gas with kryptonite, kidnaps Lois, and with the kryponite scare gas tricks Superman into killing Lois. The issue ends with Superman sticking his hand through Joker’s chest and declaring an end to war.
