News: Video Game Releases

This is where we put out some info about the games we think are going to be somewhere between decent and awesome that release today or later this week.  Typically we skip over the heavy hitters.  Sorry Call of Duty, but 8 million people usually already know about your release date.

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance – 360, PS3

Buy on Amazon

Developed by Platinum (Bayonetta, Vanquish) and Konami and published by Konami.  You’re a cyborg ninja that can precision slice dudes, ladies, and robots alike into tiny pieces with the quickness.

Silent Hill Book of Memories - PSV

Buy on Amazon

Developed by Wayforward (A Boy and his Blob, Aliens Infestation, Double Dragon Neon) and published by Konami.  Its a dungeon crawling co-op RPG in Silent Hill.  It sounds like the right kind of madness to work.

Sure, it probably won’t be scary at all.  And sure it probably shouldn’t be a Silent Hill game but reality folks: Konami is going to keep making Silent Hill games no matter what.  Akira Yamaoka is gone and who knows if he’ll ever come back.  If they make a good game of any genre under the Silent Hill moniker I think we should consider ourselves lucky.  And really, who doesn’t want to roll up a custom emo-goth chick whose going to axe Pyramid Head a question?

Neverdead – 360, PS3

Buy on Amazon

Developed by Rebellion Developments (Lots of Alien vs Predator games) and published by Konami.  Neverdead is a third person action game with puzzle elements and that is about the only normal thing I can write about this game.  The main character can’t die but can be dismembered so at some point the player is going to be rolling around his head looking for the old body parts.

Iron Brigade Rise of the Martian Bear DLC – XBLA

Buy Microsoft Space Dollars on Amazon

Developed by Double Fine Productions and published by Microsoft.  Rise of the Martian Bear is the DLC for the Iron Brigade (formerly known as Trenched).  Normally we don’t plug DLC on here but this one seemed like it was going under the radar and Double Fine usually deserves your attention.  Plus mechs.

Metal Gear Solid HD – 360, PS3

Buy on Amazon

Developed by Kojima Productions and published by Konami.  The significant part of this collection is that its also on the 360.  Metal Solid has traditionally been a Playstation title.  The collection includes Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker (No Metal Gear Solid 1 or Twin Snakes).

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – 360, PC, PS3 - Nov 11

Buy on Amazon

Developed and published by Bethesda.  This is ridiculous because this game is totally going to sell a zillion copies and this section is supposed to be for the less fortunate.  But really anyone releasing a game this November is NOT the less fortunate and we have to post something.  So you know what?  We’ll pick the live action trailer.  See its not even a game.  By the way don’t call this weekend, I’ll be playing Skyrim.

Konami Pre-E3 Press Conference

The Konami pre-E3 press event is available online to watch at Gametrailers:  http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2011-konami/714570

Here are the things we think are interesting and why:

  • Metal Gear Solid (MGS)  HD Collection has been announced for release in November for both the 360 and PS3.  This is the first time that MGS will grace the 360.  The collection includes MGS 2, 3, and MGS Peacewalker.  So no MGS1.  The PSP savegame will be transferable to the PS3 version.  Personally, I would think this release would undermine the purchase of Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater for 3DS.  Why pay $30-$50 for the 3DS game when you can buy the collection for probably a lower or similar price point in November?
  • Megadeth did a new song for the NeverDead trailer.  Yup, Peace Sells…  But Who’s Buyin’?
  • Silent Hill HD Collection only includes Silent Hill 2 and 3 for both 360 and PS3.  Since they announced this at the end of some interviews involving the upcoming movie, there’s a decent chance the release date will be somewhere near the movie release.  Kind of odd to leave out Silent Hill 1 since 3 is a direct sequel to it.
  • And most importantly if you didn’t hear it on TVGP, Zone of Enders HD Collection, PS3 and 360.  Everyone should buy this because I want them to make a third.  Yeah I’m not a professional, I get to write stuff like that.
  • Also new Contra in the works and its probably the game Kojima is working on.
