Videogame: Lollipop Chainsaw Review – 360, PS3

Wrapping up my thoughts on this game is extremely difficult so in the words of whatever movie White Zombie sampled, “perhaps you had better start from the beginning”.  Lollipop Chainsaw is a videogame and does not hide this fact.  It has the likes of James Gunn, Suda 51, Akira Yamaoka, and Jimmy Urine on its credits.  To describe Grasshopper (the developer) as a “punk rock” game developer may be appropriate but like many social stigmas, how in the hell do you define that?  Evidently with sparkles, zombies, and a chainsaw.

Welcome to the second occasional podcast of the Carousel Afterhours, where we just without any sort of plan or intention or limitation.  Joey and Lauren couldn’t make it this week so John and Scott went on unchecked for about 2.5 hours.

And this turn we talk a LOT of music and finish up with some tech, videogames, film, and emails.  Subjects range from The Damned, Akira Yamaoka, Star Wars, iPhone 4S, Asus, Android, Supreme Beings of Leisure, VNV Nation, Art of Noise, Tosca, Genesis P Orridge, Throbbing Gristle, Tulsa, Sex Pistols, Juno Reactor, Traci Lords, Bjork, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Maynard Ferguson, Gears of War, Rage, Aliens Colonial Marines, Gearbox, Republic Commando, David Lynch, Dirty Harry, Finding Forrester, Halo, Civilization V, and a whole lot more.  Since this is an oddball cast, we will break out the emails again the next normal turn of the Carousel.

My ultimate goal in writing a review is to deliver enough of my personality and enough information that whether you agree with my tastes or not you can still determine whether you’ll like the game or not.  Shadows of the Damned is difficult to write about for this very reason.  Shadows of the Damned is good but lacks a lot of polish.  There are a lot of sections of the game where I imagine most players will simply quit playing out of frustration.
