News: Video Game Releases

This is where we put out some info about the games we think are going to be somewhere between decent and awesome that release today or later this week.  Typically we skip over the heavy hitters.  Sorry Call of Duty, but 8 million people usually already know about your release date.

Skull Girls – PSN/XBLA

Developed by Reverge Labs and published by Konami/Autumn Games with soundtrack by Muchiru Yamane of Castlevania fame.  Skull Girls is an all female cast 2D fighter that has a highly stylized look reminiscent of Darkstalker and Blazblue.

Journey - PSN

Developed by thatgamecompany and published by Sony.  Journey is the third game released by the critically acclaimed company, with the previous two being Flow and Flower.   Technically the game released last week for PSN Plus users but today it is available for everyone.  Describing a game by this company oftentimes sounds insane so we will refrain from it.  But know we have played it and we love it and believe you will too unless you’r lacking in the soul department.

House of the Dead Overkill Extended Cut – PS3

Buy on Amazon

Developed by Headstrong Games and developed by Sega.  This is the PS3 Move enabled version of the motherfucking awesome Wii game.  We apologize for using the f-bomb in our otherwise clean posts but this game demands it!  If you aren’t familiar, the game is basically a grindhouse flick rail shooter that’s incredibly vulgar and funny.  House of the Dead Overkill Extended Cut releases at $29.99.

Dance Central 2 - 360

Buy on Amazon

Developed and published by Harmonix for the 360 Kinect.  Dance Central 2 introduces co-operative play to the mix with a cast of new and old characters.  Pretty much our theory is the first one was ridiculous fun so the second one must be.  Also you can purchase all the tunes from the first game for $5.

Cursed Crusade - 360/PS3

Buy on Amazon

Developed by the relatively unknown Kylotonn and published by Atlus (everything that is good).  Cursed Crusade appears to be a violent combo driven co-op Crusade era action beat ‘em up.  While the average gamer may be apprehensive about investing $60 into a new game from an unknown developer, note they won’t have to since it releases at $39.99.

Voltron – PSN/XBLA

Developed by THQ and Behaviour Interactive.  Truth be told, we think this game is going to be absolutely terrible but we love giant robits!  The game is up to 5 player co-op and the trailer we linked below has some of the original US cartoon’s Peter Cullen (aka Optimus Prime) narration.  But its only going to cost $10!  That’s like the cost of a bad movie in the theater!  So form the blazing sword, wonder what the heck happened to Lance cause that sure looked like a funeral, and go Voltron force!

News: Journey PS3 Beta

Journey is now starting an open Beta according to the Playstation Blog (link below).  The Beta will run from June 28 through July 12.  Allegedly early adopters of Flower and PSN Plus subscribers will be eligible and be invited from the XMB.

Journey is made by ThatGameCompany most notably the developers of Flow and Flower.  Journey is a multiplayer experience that does not use headsets or PSN names that is literally about the title.  The game involves exploring a desert and ruins while occasionally running into other individuals with only the in game controls for interaction.

News – PSN Identity Theft Coverage

Again we have no commitment to covering news on here but free identity theft coverage and insurance for all victims of the PSN breach is pretty important.  I apologize for not posting this when I received it but I kind of just now thought of it.

Its a two step process.  First go to this link and enter the email address associated with the PSN account : http://us.playstation.com/news/consumeralerts/identity-theft-protection/

Sony says it will take them up to 3 business day to match the email to your account.  It took about 1.5 for me.  Once this is verified they will email you a link to AllClearPlus ID’s registration form with a code.   There is no credit card registration required to sign up for this coverage.  There isn’t even an option to enter a credit card.  Once signed up, AllClearPlus ID took overnight for them to return my registration email to me.

PSN Updates

We will not be covering video games on this next podcast so here is an update on the PSN facts as they appear.  Updates have been appearing with rampant frequency on the Playstation blog so we will endeavor only to provide once a week updates on the situation.

News: Video Game Releases

This is the first entry into our news section.  While we do not have the resources to cover news in person, we certainly can find plenty of links to other websites and videos.  We will not cover all games coming out, only games of possible interest to the staff.

Released on PSN yesterday and XBLA today

Tuesday the 15th

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together – PSP

Marvel vs Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds – 360, PS3
Developed by Capcom

Hyperdimension Neptunia – PS3
Developed by Idea Factory (Spectrial Force, Record of Agarest War)
The idea behind the game is that the main characters represent the 360, PS3, Wii, and the Sega system that never launched, the Neptune.
